Who are my students and what is this lesson plan?

Kindergarten; This is a Social Studies and Multi-disciplinary Lesson.

What will my students be learning?

LA.K.2.1.5: The student will participate in a group response to various literary selections (e.g., nursery rhymes, fairy tales, picture books), identifying the character(s),setting, and sequence of events and connecting text to self (personal connection) and text to world (social connection).

LA.K.3.1.2: The student will prewrite by drawing a picture about ideas from stories read aloud or generated through class discussion.

LA.K.4.3.1: The student will draw a picture and use it to explain why this item (food, pet, person) is their favorite.

LA.K.5.2.4: The student will recite short poems, rhymes, songs, and stories with repeated patterns;

How will my students be learning?

1. Using daily repetition, the kindergarten students will memorize and recite the “Rainforest Song” with 95% accuracy.
This objective is asking students to recall the song at the “knowledge” level of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

2. Using listed literary selections (Rainforest, The Great Kapok Tree, Nature’s Green Umbrella, Who Is The Beast, Where The Forest Meets The Sea, and For The Love Of Our Earth), the kindergarten students will listen and comprehend the stories by participating in class discussions about what they read.
This objective is asking students to explore and understand relationships at the “analysis” level of Bloom’s taxonomy as well as asking students to explain ideas and concepts at the “comprehension” level of Bloom’s taxonomy.

3. Using paper and crayons, and having already learned the rainforest layers, the kindergarten students will draw and cut out the different layers, and then tape or glue them in the correct order into their rainforest layer book.
This objective is asking students to design pictures by using information they’ve already gathered at the “synthesis” and “application” levels of Bloom’s taxonomy.

4. Using paper and crayons, the kindergarten students will draw flowers and leaves from the rainforest, appropriately and creatively portraying such things.
This objective is asking students to design pictures by using information they’ve already gathered at the “synthesis” and “application” levels of Bloom’s taxonomy.

5. Using toucan stencil, paper, and crayons, the kindergarten students will trace the toucan and color inside of the lines appropriately.
This objective is asking students to design pictures by using information they’ve already gathered at the “synthesis” and “application” levels of Bloom’s taxonomy.

6. Using jaguar and tiger stencils, paper, and crayons, the kindergarten students will trace the jaguar and tiger and color inside of the lines appropriately.
This objective is asking students to design pictures by using information they’ve already gathered at the “synthesis” and “application” levels of Bloom’s taxonomy.

7. Using a computer and some help from the teacher, the kindergarten students will play Microsoft Scholastic's The Magic School Bus Explores the Rainforest cd-rom software and complete at least one activity on the game.
This objective is asking students to accomplish tasks relating to previously gathered information and so addresses the “comprehension” and “application” levels of Bloom’s taxonomy.

8. Using a computer and some help from the teacher, the kindergarten students will practice typing as they completely rewrite a sentence they have already hand-written on paper.
This objective is asking students to access information they’ve already gathered and reformatting is and so addresses the “comprehension” and “knowledge” levels of Bloom’s taxonomy.

How will I evaluate the learning?:

I will evaluate the learning based on the kindergarten students’ completion of each project and the visible and observed effort that was put into each project. I will also evaluated the learning based on how well each kindergarten student understands different properties of the rainforest by the end of the week.
